My name is Joshua Ward...
and I live in Howard County, Maryland. I grew up on a small farm where we raise sheep and miniature donkeys, in addition to managing a menagerie of dogs, cats, and rabbits. On the inside we have an eclectic mix of fish, spiders, snakes, and a gecko. I am passionate about everything concerning the natural world, which I pursue through hiking and exploration, photography, and art. Birds have always been my foremost interest, ever since I headed into our wooded backyard with a folding chair, my first pair of binoculars, and a copy of the Audubon Guide to North American Birds – when I was less than five years old! I have devoted myself to better understanding the environment, enhancing the health of the world in which we live, and educating others about animals and nature. I support these interests by documenting my activities through the camera lens, and also by drawings that are drawn largely from my photographs. I have done extensive traveling in pursuit of the photographic documentation of my interests, including the American southwest, Texas, Colorado, Maine, New York, Costa Rica, and the Netherlands. I also spend a great deal of time in my own corner of the world – the Patuxent River watershed and the eastern shore of Maryland and Delaware. I hope that you enjoy my work!
